Tribal Fit: Tell us a little more about yourself?
-
Thato Seopa: I am 27 years of age. I was born and raised in the Limpopo province. My background lies in pageantry as well as in fitness. The South African fitness industry has had an impact in my life since the year 2014. I have been a Miss SA Gauteng Regional finalist and a Miss Mamelodi Sundowns Limpopo regional finalist. As soon as the fitness bug bit me, I changed completely and ended up becoming South Africa’s first black female WFF Bikini professional. I then got awarded my professional licence and represented the country in the year 2017 at the WFF World Championships.
2. Tribal Fit: Based on your career how strict do you have to be with yourself in maintaining set body weight?
2. Thato Seopa: Luckily for me, I have a rapid metabolism. With that said, preparing for shows is pure bliss as I don’t have to change my dietary needs too much in order to stay within the range of my body weight.
3. Tribal Fit: What does it take for you to stay consistent and focused on building your body?
3. Thato Seopa: I do it with the end in mind. I have been competing since 2014 so I have become accustomed to what I need to change in terms of my workout routine in order to see a change with maximum effect on certain body parts.

4. Tribal Fit: How do you make time to work out and body build?
4. Thato Seopa: I finish all my personal duties prior to working out as I have to maintain a full-time job. I incorporate working out either first thing in the morning or I work out after knocking off from work.
5. Tribal Fit: What is your daily routine like?
5. Thato Seopa: I wake up at 04:30 am if I will be going to the gym early. I then eat my pre-workout meal and have my pre-workout drink. I then check my diary to make sure that I get through all my duties for the day. By 06:00 am I will be at the gym till approximately 07:30, depending on which body part I would be training. If I would be training anything other than legs, I’d be done at around 07:00. My leg days are the most strenuous and stretched-out days.
6. Tribal Fit: What did it take for you to get to the body type and weight you are in now?
6. Thato Seopa: While my genetics plays a role partly, I still have to maintain a healthy balanced diet. I am naturally lean and it takes quite a copious amount of effort for me to gain weight.
7. Tribal Fit: When things get difficult and you feel like giving up what do you say to yourself to keep going?
7. Thato Seopa: Wow, it happens hey so luckily I keep a USB of motivational bodybuilding videos of people like Dana Linn Bailey and Maria Guinea. I just literally repeat what would usually be motivational talks in the background of the above-mentioned videos.
8. Tribal Fit: What do you consider hardship?
8. Thato Seopa: I consider negative work-relationships as hardships. It can genuinely make or break you being in the presence of people who motivate/demotivate you. It’s mentally extremely strenuous keeping a positive Mindset while you are in a negative environment.
9. Tribal Fit: Do you have a motto you live by?
9. Thato Seopa: The motto I live by is “Veni Vidi Vici” which is a Latin phrase, partly made famous by Australian personal trainer Aziz Shavershian (rest in peace). It translates to:” I came, I saw, I conquered”.
10. Tribal Fit: If you could give a younger version yourself advice what would you say?
10. Thato Seopa: “Those girls who are bullying you didn’t have a say in how you have been created by your Maker. Dry your tears, keep your chin up, and remember that you are alive for a reason. You are worthy and you are meant to be great. Someone’s life can change because of your existence, believe it!”
11. Tribal Fit: What motivates you?
11. Thato Seopa: My fear of losing motivates me to be successful.
12. Tribal Fit: How do you personally define pain?
12. Thato Seopa: Pain is an aspect of human existence that cannot be changed by anyone. I have been built and formed by the very things that have hurt me.

13. Tribal Fit: How do you personally define joy?
13. Thato Seopa: Wow, joy joy it is how you make me feel! An emotion that I can never get enough of. Joy can make you feel like there are no problems whatsoever.
14. Tribal Fit: What is your end goal?
14. Thato Seopa: I strongly believe that I have been an epitome of no-barriers-to-success as I come from a very small Afrikaans town, looking back at all I have achieved within the fitness space alone. I just want to be the go-to person for the youth in terms of motivation and using the gym to escape life’s pains.
