Tribal Fit: Tell us a little bit about yourself.

My name is Liz Dumagude, I’m from Johannesburg and I am an HR Consultant. I am passionate about health, wellness and keeping our bodies active!

Tribal Fit: How old are you?

27

Tribal Fit: Based on your career, how strict do you have to be with yourself in maintaining your body?

I do not believe that my career has any effect on maintaining my body, my goals are more important.

Tribal Fit: What does it take for you to stay consistent and focused on building your body?

Preparation and planning are KEY. Also understanding that no one can put in the work for you; you can have an award winning coach and meal plan, but it will not work if you do not.

Tribal Fit: How do you make time to work out and body-build?

I wake up at 4 am to get my cardio and strength training in. Because the environment that I work in is stressful, emotionally taxing and tiring, it is better to get it done and give it my all first thing in the morning, rather than giving the bare minimum after work.

Tribal Fit: What is your daily routine like?

I wake up at 4 am, have my pre-workout meal, get ready and head to the gym. I train from 5:45 am to 7:00 am, shower and get ready for work at the gym then head off to the office. I work from 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, and then head back to the gym for extra cardio. I get home around 6:30 pm, I then unpack my car, prep my lunchboxes, pack my gym bag, eat, shower and head off to bed around 7:30 pm.

Tribal Fit: What did it take for you to get to the body type and weight you have now?

Commitment and perseverance. There is no ‘quick fix’ to living a healthy lifestyle. No detox teas, no waist trainers, no fancy pills. I have been training since 2017 and I am only now starting to see the changes in my body that I wanted all those years ago. It is easy to give up, but my goals are bigger!Tribal Fit: What did it take for you to get to the body type and weight you have now?

Tribal Fit: When things get difficult and you feel like giving up, what do you say to yourself?

Motivation waivers, but my discipline keeps me going. I also surround myself with like-minded people; you are the company that you keep, so if your circle is also on the same path as you, I look to them to re-ignite that fire in me.

Tribal Fit: Which workouts do you consider hard?

I do not consider any workouts ‘hard’ per se. Everything will be ‘hard’ when you are doing it for the first time. I do, however, have a disliking to walking lunges – haha!

Tribal Fit: Do you have a motto you live by?

Changing your body is hard, but so is hating your body. Choose your hard.

Tribal Fit: If you could give a younger version of yourself advice, what would you say?

Stop comparing yourself to others. You are in your own lane, running at your own pace.

Tribal Fit: What motivates you?

The thought of a little girl of colour coming across my page, thinking ‘she looks just like me,’ and inspiring her to go for it! There is so much untapped potential in our country and I feel like people are scared to because they are not the ‘desired’ candidate.

Tribal Fit: How do you personally define joy?

Joy is time spent with my family, hyena laughing and reminiscing on silly memories. That is when I do not focus on any problems or worries in the world.

Tribal Fit: What is your end goal?

I’d like to get my Springbok Colours in bodybuilding, but I also would like to educate more people on the importance of looking after your health and body. My mom was quite sick and passed away when I was little, I’d like to think if I was a bit older and more educated, I could have done more and she would still be here.
