If you want to get the most of your workout, nothing will prepare your body better than a good night’s sleep. With enough sleep, you can build muscle and and recover much better after a workout. The recommended amount of sleep is seven to nine hours per day. Here are some reasons why getting in those hours of rest is essential for your fitness.

Sleep slows down the body and brain, and assists in the process of recovering your mental and physical performance. When you sleep, your body produces energy in the form of glycogen, which is what it uses as fuel when you work out. A lack of sleep results in lower amounts of energy which in turn affects your body’s efficiency during your workouts.

As you rest, your body releases hormones that regulate your metabolism and help to repair and rebuild muscle tissue, which is necessary for your strength and growth. Sleeping can also influence your muscle coordination, helping you improve your techniques better. Without proper rest, your muscles will be affected and your workout won’t yield the results that it could.

So it helps to remember that your body recovers the most as you sleep at night. Sleep helps your body restore its energy levels and regulate hormones that are necessary for weight control and muscle health. To avoid injuries and see better results for your work, make sure that you are getting the rest that you need.

Stick with these tips and you’re on your way to being proud of yourself for achieving your fitness goals.
