Born and bred in a township in the Limpopo province 34 years ago Didi Mamabolo learned the art of running her own race and that means in the simplest way, she learned how to live life on her own terms, in her own way, and for herself regardless of the circumstances, she was facing.
As a mother of one, she is a firm believer in being self- reliant and creating your own kind of freedom, whether you want to travel, start a business, be a mother, change your life for the better, Didi says “ you have to be who and what you want to be at your own expense, you need to be able to make sound decisions for yourself without outside influences”.
We all know its easier said than done, just going out there living the life you want but looking at it from the perspective of someone who is a university dropout due to financial exclusion. They are harder things in life we can face but with resilience and self-belief, the things we think are impossible are possible.

Didi is talking from a place where she could’ve given up like so many people but even with nothing, she decided to find a way for herself that worked for her.
She was pushed by circumstances to think bigger, work with what she had, and to be patient. She recalls a time when she struggled with people around her and how they never believed in her and her vision. It was at that moment she realized she had to believe in herself and the vision before anyone else would ever do the same.
She says “ no one believed in me, I had to struggle, I had to work on myself to gain self-belief and confidence in order to do what I needed to do for myself ”.

The same mindset she has in life has impacted her fitness lifestyle immensely. She comes in with the same mentality, she says “ if I want a specific type of body I am the only one who is responsible for creating it and ultimately becoming it”. Through discipline and hard work, she has learned that her goals can be achieved and her bad habits can be overcome.
The reason we titled this feature on Didi ( How to run your own race ) is that we were inspired by how unlikely her story is.
How she is able to just keep going and grow from nothing to strength to strength fighting to establish the exact kind of freedom she wanted for herself and ultimately how she didn’t listen to what other had to say that wasn’t going to help her, how to she took the time to always consider her inner voice which told her to always move forward and have faith in herself.
Woman like her, who come from where she comes from doesn’t always make it like her and we hope she has taught you that all you need to do is focus on you, focus on what you want, and where you want to go and work like mad to get there.
